Security & You
Data security is everyone's responsibility. Whether it is protecting your personal data, the Bureau's, or following your data use agreement for research, learn the steps you should take each day.
Two Factor Authentication (2FA)
Many web applications and the VPN at the NBER are protected by Duo for 2FA. Duo relies on something you know and something you have to protect your NBER account and data. Keep your passwords unique and your 2FA devices passcode protected as well. Enable 2FA for other systems in your personal and work life whenever possible.
National Cybersecurity Awareness Month (NCSAM)
During October, the IT staff will be sharing tips on how you can keep your data safe. SANS has resources on NCSAM, including advice on securing your mobile devices, especially when working remotely. All NBER staff will be participating in the KnowBe4 security training to increase our security awareness.
Secure Transfer of Files
Employees are expected to follow the Personal Information Security Policy as outlined in the Employee Guidelines available in MyNBER. If need to share Personal Information, or other confidential data, please contact IT if you need assistance in transmitting this content securely. Email is not a secure form of communication, but we have multiple methods, XM SendSecure, to ensure content is shared safely.
