- Ensure that you are connected to an NBER network. This includes both wired Ethernet connections and NBER Wi-Fi.
- Go to the Control Panel. You can do this by entering Control Panel into the search bar on the left side of the taskbar at the bottom of the screen.
- Click on View Devices and Printers underneath Hardware and Sound.
If your window looks different than the one shown below, you may have a different view selected. Click View by: in the top right of the window and select Category.
- Click on Add a printer at the top to the left.
- Click on The printer that I want isn’t listed.
- Select Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname, then click Next.
- Type the domain name of the printer in the "Hostname or IP address" field, leave "Device type" as Autodetect, and leave the “Query the printer …” box checked.
The domain name of the printer is its name with “.nber.org” added to the end. For example, the domain name of the printer "PNAME" is "PNAME.nber.org" The name of the printer should be written on a sticker on the printer.
- Finally, add the printer with the default name, leaving the model of the printer in the name. For example, the name for PNAME would be "PNAME (HP LaserJet P3010 Series)".
- If you see a “Do not share this printer” option, leave it selected.
The printer should now be added! To test this we can print a test page. Locate the printer in the Devices and Printers window we navigated to earlier. Right click on it, then click Printer Properties, then click Print a test page.
