Equipment for Staff
Please reach out to it-support@nber.org for work equipment needs, including both remote and in-office peripherals. NBER work should generally be done on a Bureau device, with the exception of general email checking as long as you are not downloading content to your personal devices.
Equipment for Researchers
IT staff can provide basic computing equipment (desktop computer, peripherals) for use while at the Cambridge office. If your grant allows for the purchase of equipment, we would be happy to facilitate a purchase. Please reach out to it-support@nber.org for all equipment requests.
Software
Software available for all NBER devices includes Microsoft Office and Stata. NBER computers have a number of additional applications pre-installed. Please contact us if you are looking for something specific.
File Storage
You will have a z: drive that connects to your Unix home directory, which is also centrally backed up.
Staff also have a Google Workspace account, that includes Google Drive. Instructions on Google Drive for Desktop and Shared Drives, to facilitate file sharing with others, can be found here.
Computer Backups
Staff are strongly urged to use Backblaze for their office computer automatic file backups, accessible via the cloud in an emergency. IT will send new employees an invitation to join the NBER account and enroll your computer.
CrowdStrike
All NBER computers are protected by CrowdStrike Falcon for antivirus/antimalware. Please do not install other applications that may conflict.
