This project supports several research initiatives of the Gender in the Economy working group of the National Bureau of Economic Research. The NBER, a leader in applied economic research, is a network of more than 1800 academic economists carrying out research in a range of sub-disciplines. The working group, led by Jessica Goldberg of the University of Maryland, Nobel laureate Claudia Goldin of Harvard University, and Claudia Olivetti of Dartmouth College, has three objectives. First, it convenes leading researchers from across the field of economics to share their latest research findings, thereby raising the visibility of gender issues within the economics profession and drawing attention to the scholars who are advancing this research agenda. Second, it provides a venue in which academic researchers from both the Global North and the Global South can interact with each other and with experts on public policy design and implementation to frame a research agenda on gender-related issues in economics. Finally, it will expand the pipeline of scholars working on gender issues by awarding competitive fellowships to dissertation-writers in economics who are studying gender-related topics. By advancing these three objectives, the Working Group will help to build a research base that can inform policy design in both the Global South and elsewhere and will advance the careers of scholars who are studying gender-related issues in both developing and developed economies.
