* Starting 2022 on, the FIPS to CBSA Crosswalk table published by CMS under IPPS stopped including ssa_codes. Therefore the Stata, SAS, and CSV files for those years are a combination of the Crosswalk and the Medicare  Advantage (MA) Ratebook which contains SSA and county names.

** Starting 2024 the Census Bureau has adopted the State of Connecticut's nine planning regions as county-equivalent geographic units. This change is observed in the 2025 International Committee for Information Technology Standards (INCITS) (formerly Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS)) Codes to CBSA Crosswalk, but has not been implemented in the SSA County Codes in the MA Ratebook. Therefore it is not possible to generate a crosswalk for Connecticut. Researcher's might find useful Missouri Census Data Center's Geocorr 2022 that generates geographical correspondence tables between using 2020 census population, area or housing units as weights.

According to CMS the MSABEA file is no longer updated.

CMS did not produce SSA to FIPS state and county crosswalk files between the 2003-08-19 and 2011.

In the 2003-08-19 Source crosswalk file, Angoon, Alaska with SSA county code 02030 has a fips county code of 02031. This FIPS county code does not seem to exist elsewhere, and it appears that the fips county value should be 02231, so this change has been made to the SAS and Stata files.
