Reading Current Population Survey (CPS) Supplement Data with SAS, SPSS, or Stata
These SAS, SPSS, and Stata files were created by data@nber.org at the NBER to make access to the BLS/Census Current Population Survey Supplement data more straightforward and easy.
The corresponding data files are available at NBER's CPS Supplements page and/or the Census CPS homepage.
Update (10/23/2024): March CPS programs for the year 2024 are now available. See below for more information.
March CPS programs for 2019 to 2023
In 2019, the Census Bureau stopped providing March CPS data dictionaries in text format. The PDF documentation became the only place to get the data dictionaries. Unfortunately, parsing information from a PDF can be difficult and time-consuming so the March CPS program updates were put on hold. However, given how important we know these programs are to researchers, we recently undertook a project to parse the data dictionaries directly from the PDFs. The resulting programs for the years 2019 to 2024 are in the table below. We consider these to be beta versions and would greatly appreciate assistance in testing these files for any issues. Please report any feedback or issues to data@nber.org. Thank you!
