ALL USERS OF THE DATA SHOULD READ THIS PAPER AND CITE IT AS THE SOURCE OF THE DATA

The source grant data files are quite large. There are 1972 file has 1,707,365 lines and the 1995 file has 3,954,179 lines.
The CSV files contain the grant number (in three parts), amount, description codes, description emphasis (primary, secondary, tertiary) and text description.
2-N01-AH04094-04.txt is the first grant from the 1972 source grant file. 2-N01-AH04094-04.csv shows how it is represented in the CSV file.
Grants can also be viewed online at http://crisp.cit.nih.gov

1995 is the last year for this data because it is the last year the amount of the grant was included in NIH CRISP.

To download files in Internet Explorer, right click on them and select "Save Target As...".

The CRISP thesaurus history shows which description codes are used when and their text description.

The 1996 CRISP thesaurus tree CSV file and original TXT file shows how the codes are arranged hierarchically.

This SAS program was used to read the data.
