A Commitment Device for Medication Adherence Among HIV Patients

DATE: September 1, 2010 to August 31, 2014

The goal of this pilot was to assess whether a commitment contract informed by behavioral economics leads to persistent virologic suppression among HIV-positive patients with poor antiretroviral therapy (ART) adherence. We also assessed whether a commitment contract informed by behavioral economics leads to persistent virologic suppression among HIV-positive patients with poor antiretroviral therapy (ART) adherence. We found that commitment contracts can improve ART adherence and virologic suppression.
