This project will initiate a research agenda to evaluate the consequences of artificial intelligence technologies on society in general and economic outcomes in particular. This project will focus on the development of a cross-field research community, bringing macroeconomists, labor economists, industrial organization economists, econometricians, and others together to build an understanding of how these technologies will affect jobs, productivity, economic growth, industry, political economy, international relations, and inequality. The project will help to establish research norms between scholars who do not regularly interact because of the siloed nature of the academy. It will aid in building a data infrastructure to enable high quality empirical research.
