Health is both a central input to human capital development as well as a key output of economic well-being. To showcase research on racial and ethnic disparities in health outcomes and health care, the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), with support from the National Institute on Aging, will convene a research conference in Cambridge, MA, on Friday, May 16, 2025. The program will be organized by NBER researchers Jevay Grooms (Howard University) and Hannes Schwandt (Northwestern University).
The conference will highlight research on a range of issues related to health disparities, including long-term trends in disparities and the sources of these disparities, measurement of disparities at different stages of the lifecycle, racial and ethnic discrimination in health care delivery, disparities in public and private insurance access, and the impact of public policies more broadly in amplifying or reducing disparities. Sendhil Mullainathan (MIT and NBER) will deliver a keynote address.
The organizers will consider submissions of long abstracts as well as complete papers, with a preference for papers. They welcome submissions from scholars who are early in their careers, who are not NBER affiliates, and who are members of historically under-represented groups.
To be considered for inclusion on the program, papers or abstracts must be uploaded by to:11:59pm EST on Thursday, February 13, 2025.
