Our annual general research conference on the Japanese economy will be held in Tokyo on July 29 and 30, 2025. The meeting will be jointly sponsored by the National Bureau of Economic Research, the Australia-Japan Research Centre, the Center for Advanced Research in Finance, and the Center for Japanese Economy and Business.
There will be no formal theme for the conference, and we will choose papers based on our judgment of their quality. The deadline for submissions is December 31, 2024. If you are interested in presenting a paper, please upload a pdf file.
You may send an outline or abstract, but preference will be given to completed papers. We aim to make our choice of papers by mid-February. We encourage submissions of papers by scholars who are early in their careers, who are not affiliated with the organizing institutions, and who are members of groups that have historically been underrepresented in the economics profession.
On the day after the NBER Japan Project Meeting (July 31, 2025), there will be another conference on the Japanese economy organized by NBER (Alan Auerbach and Anil Kashyap) and ESRI (Economic and Social Research Institute) of the Japanese Government Cabinet Office. Participants in the NBER Japan Project Meeting will also be invited to this conference.
The conference will cover travel and hotel expenses for one author per paper and for discussants. Questions about this conference may be addressed to confer@nber.org.
Kosuke Aoki, Shiro Armstrong, Charles Horioka, and David Weinstein look forward to seeing your work and hope you will join us in Tokyo next summer.
