Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
NBER Harmonized Variables for Health Survey Data
1. Do I really only need to edit the define_directory.do file?
Yes the only file you need to edit is the define_directory.do file, because it acts as centralized location for all directories.
2. When running on Windows with Stata interactively, why does the runmaster.do program crash immediately?
In some cases this happens because Stata may have a present default directory to which Stata opens to. The easiest way to see this is to look at the lower left-hand corner where Stata will report the current directory. This should be the same directory which your runmaster.do program is found in. You can also type in pwd into Stata to check the current directory. If it differs from where your runmaster.do file is found, simply change the working directory by typing
stata_terminal > cd directory/where/runmaster/is/found/
