Graduate (Pre-Doctoral) Fellowship for PhD Students in Aging and Health Research

NBER’s Fellowship Program in Aging and Health Research, funded by the National Institute on Aging and directed by Professors David Cutler and Amy Finkelstein, gives trainees exposure to a wide range of NBER research projects related to the economics of aging and health. Participating fellows pursue independent research while benefiting from opportunities for regular interaction with the NBER’s large network of prominent investigators in this field. Learn more about the program. 

The fellowship offers a 12-month stipend of $28,224; carrel space and use of computer facilities at the NBER’s Cambridge office; tuition support; and limited funds for travel and research expenses. All fellows are expected to spend the academic year in proximity to the NBER.

Eligibility

Applications are being accepted for 8 fellowships in 2025-2026, pending continuation of funding.  Applicants must be

• US citizens, lawfully admitted to the US for permanent residence, or non-citizen nationals of the US, and
• Enrolled in a PhD program in the greater Boston area, or if enrolled elsewhere, have a plan to be resident in the Boston area during the fellowship year.
